Chipotle Meets Q4 Expectations Amid Cautious 2025 Sales Outlook
Chipotle Mexican Grill reported fourth-quarter 2024 earnings per share (EPS) of $0.25, surpassing analyst estimates by $0.01. Quarterly revenue reached $2.85 billion, meeting consensus expectations.
Comparable restaurant sales increased by 5.4%, driven by a 4.0% rise in transactions. Digital sales contributed 34.4% of total food and beverage revenue. Net income rose to $331.8 million, compared to $282.1 million in the same period last year. Chipotle opened 120 new locations during the quarter, including one international licensed restaurant.
For the full year 2024, revenue grew by 14.6% to $11.3 billion, with comparable restaurant sales rising 7.4% and transactions up by 5.3%. Net income increased by 24.7% to $1.53 billion, or $1.11 per diluted share, while adjusted EPS reached $1.12. Labor costs remained steady at 24.7% of revenue, though higher ingredient costs pushed food and packaging expenses to 29.8% of revenue.
Looking ahead, Chipotle anticipates low to mid-single-digit comparable sales growth for 2025, with plans to open between 315 and 345 new restaurants, over 80% featuring a Chipotlane. Chipotle also expects an underlying effective tax rate between 25% and 27% before discrete items.
