Comcast Faces Subscriber Decline Despite Revenue and Profit Growth in Q4

Comcast reported a fourth-quarter loss of 139,000 broadband subscribers, higher than the 91,000 decline analysts had expected, according to FactSet.

The subscriber losses were attributed to increased competition from telecom firms bundling 5G mobile services with internet plans and business disruptions caused by Hurricanes Milton and Helene in Florida. Despite these setbacks, Comcast announced plans to introduce new bundled pricing packages in upgraded markets to compete with wireless carriers such as AT&T and Verizon.

Comcast’s total revenue for the quarter rose 2.1% to $31.92 billion, surpassing the $31.64 billion estimate from LSEG. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 96 cents, beating forecasts by 10 cents. Comcast’s studio division revenue increased nearly 7%, while Peacock’s revenue grew 27.8% following price hikes in 2023. However, cable TV networks continued to decline, losing 311,000 subscribers as consumers shifted toward streaming services.
