Apple Beats Q2 Estimates with Record EPS and Services Revenue Amid Rising Tariff Costs

Apple reported fiscal second-quarter results for the period ended March 29, 2025, delivering earnings per share (EPS) of $1.65, a $0.04 ahead of the consensus estimate of $1.61. Reported a revenue of $95.36 billion, topping the $94.22 billion expected by analysts. This represents a 5% year-over-year increase in revenue and an 8% rise in EPS. 

Net income rose to $24.78 billion from $23.64 billion in the same quarter last year. iPhone sales reached $46.84 billion, beating expectations by $1 billion, while Mac and iPad revenues rose to $7.95 billion and $6.4 billion, respectively. Services revenue at $26.65 billion, up 11.65% year over year, though slightly below expectations. Gross margin remained stable at 47.1%, and operating cash flow came in at $24 billion.

CEO Tim Cook acknowledged rising cost pressures, noting that tariffs are expected to add $900 million in expenses in the June quarter. CFO Kevan Parekh projected revenue growth in the “low to mid-single digits” and a gross margin of approximately 46% for Q3. Regional performance was mixed, with Greater China revenue slightly lower at $16 billion, while the Americas grew nearly 8%.

Amazon Tops Q1 2025 Earnings Estimates but AWS Growth and Q2 Guidance Stir Caution

Amazon.com reported first-quarter 2025 earnings per share (EPS) of $1.59, surpassing analyst expectations by $0.22. Revenue for the quarter reached $155.7 billion, slightly ahead of the $155.29 billion consensus estimate and up 9% year-over-year, or 10% on a constant currency basis. Operating income rose to $18.4 billion from $15.3 billion in Q1 2024. Net income jumped to $17.1 billion, compared to $10.4 billion a year ago.

AWS revenue increased 17% to $29.3 billion. Regionally, North America sales climbed 8% to $92.9 billion, and international segment sales grew 5% to $33.5 billion (8% adjusted for FX). Advertising revenue grew 19% year-over-year to $13.92 billion, while operating cash flow for the trailing twelve months rose 15% to $113.9 billion. Free cash flow declined to $25.9 billion from $50.1 billion.

For the second quarter of 2025, Amazon guided for net sales between $159.0 billion and $164.0 billion, representing 7% to 11% year-over-year growth and bracketing the consensus estimate of $161 billion. Amazon expects a roughly 10 basis point negative impact from foreign exchange rates. Operating income is forecasted between $13.0 billion and $17.5 billion, compared to $14.7 billion in Q2 2024 and below the average analyst estimate of $17.7 billion.

iRhythm Reports Q1 2025 Financial Performance with Increased Revenue and Gross Margin

iRhythm Technologies reported its financial results for the first quarter of 2025, with revenue reaching $158.7 million, a 20.3% increase compared to $131.9 million in the same period of 2024. This result surpassed the consensus estimate of $153.49 million.

Gross profit for the quarter was $109.2 million, reflecting a 24.8% increase from the prior year’s $87.5 million, while gross margin improved to 68.8%, up 250 basis points from 66.3% in Q1 2024. iRhythm reported a net loss of $30.7 million, or a diluted loss of $0.97 per share, compared to a net loss of $45.7 million, or a diluted loss of $1.47 per share, in Q1 2024.

Adjusted net loss for the quarter was $30.3 million, a slight improvement from the adjusted net loss of $38.1 million in the same period of 2024. Additionally, iRhythm exceeded analyst expectations with Q1 EPS of ($0.95), beating the consensus estimate of ($0.96).

For the full year 2025, iRhythm has raised its revenue guidance to a range of $690 million to $700 million, surpassing the consensus estimate of $681.7 million. iRhythm expects its adjusted EBITDA margin for FY2025 to range between 7.5% and 8.5% of revenues. Operating expenses for the first quarter of 2025 were $141.8 million, up from $125.7 million in Q1 2024.
